our story

Built by a veteran who
understands the problem.

Major Talent exists because our founder watched too many veteran peers struggling to find work and could not stand by, when he knew there was a better way.

the origin

20 years of service. One mission left to complete.

After 20 years in the military, Tim den Hoed understood something most people don’t: the transition from military to civilian life is one of the most challenging things a service member will ever do. Not because veterans lack talent, but because the systems meant to connect them with employers don’t speak the same language. Military experience is rich, varied, and valuable. But it’s locked behind job codes, rank structures, and terminology that civilian hiring teams were never taught to read.
Tim didn’t see a complaint. He saw a problem worth solving. He’d spent his career serving others, as an Infantry Marine, an Air Force recruiter named one of the top five in the nation in 2006, and a commissioned Force Support Officer stationed across South Carolina, Hawaii, South Dakota, Kansas, and Nebraska. Helping people find their purpose was already what he did. Major Talent was the natural next step.

The vision was simple: build one platform that knocks down the silos between veterans, military spouses, and employers. Translate the experience. Remove the barriers. Create the singular hub that should have existed all along, because veterans and their families deserve better.

The journey so far.

1996–2018

20+ years of military service: Infantry Marine, Air Force fire truck mechanic, military recruiter (top 5 nationally, 2006), commissioned Force Support Officer. Stationed across 8 locations.

2022

The mission that started it all: After retiring, Tim saw firsthand how difficult it was for veterans to translate their military experience into civilian careers. The gap between military service and employer understanding wasn’t just a personal challenge; it was a systemic one worth solving.

2023

Major Talent founded: Started as a side project in Omaha, Nebraska. Built the first version of the skills translation engine. Received prototype grants from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

2023-2024

Platform built, partners signed: Launched majortalent.com. Onboarded employer partners, including Werner Enterprises, Valmont Industries, and Avera Health. Grew to ~3,000 veterans on the platform.

2025

Recognition and government traction: Nominated for Military Friendly Vetrepreneur of the Year. Featured by Nebraska DED and VCEO Magazine. Began conversations with Congress on VA bill language. We are a career preparation and continuity platform for our Veterans and Military Spouses.

2026

Scaling the mission: Full platform redesign. Expanding to military spouses. Building the national hub where veterans and employers truly connect, the Veteran Career Platform.

  • AI-translated profiles employers can read.
  • Seamless integration with HR systems.
  • Celebrated as “The Veteran Career Platform”
